Mark Shapiro's Spin on Jose Jimenez's 8 out of 11 saves as being a reason for keeping Jiminez as the closer on the Indians is so pathetic I feel sorry for the guy.
But lets look at Jimenez's 1-7 won loss record. It means one time Jiminez preserved a game and got the win. What do those 7 losses mean? They mean JIMENEZ DID NOT SAVE A TIE! DID NOT SAVE A TIE, DID NOT SAVE A TIE. There is no difference in blowing a tie or blowing a lead, in either scenario you caused the other team to win! THEY BOTH ARE BLOWN SAVE SCENARIOS. One is a BS (blown save) the other is a BT (blown tie).
So instead of saying that Jose Jimenez is 8 out of 11 in save opportunities, Jose is actually 9 out of 19 in GAME DECIDING OPPORTUNITIES.
9 out of 19. 9 out of 19. If Gagne had been our closer, we'd have 10 more wins, and 10 less losses. Only one team would have a better record than the Indians in the A.L, and that would be the New York Yankees.
Why the love for this guy, because Shapiro signed him at one million dollars, or HALF THE PRICE OF YOUR REGULAR TEAM PAYROLL PLAYER AVERAGE OF 2 MILLION???? That's right, Jiminez makes ONE-HALF of what the actual Indians team payroll average is.
If Jimenez were making 5 million a year based on an excellent track record, perhaps you have to keep going to him, but what's the excuse for a guy making a million dollars?
There is none.
Shapiro needs his head examined for allowing a pitcher with a 9 out of 19 save ratio, LESS THAN 50%, to still be on the team in any capacity.
I am so embarrassed for Mark Shapiro for even daring to bring out the 8 out of 11 save stat in save opportunities, the Spin Doctor has spun himself into the ground on this one.

Have to agree on this one. They are crazy to keep throwing Jimenez out there. In fact, if they do bring Wickman back, even the way he is now, he's better than Jimenez.
I can't see them cutting anyone but Jimenez if and when Wickman comes back.
